Oh Fiesta Island the birthplace of the modern day triathlon, so the story goes. This afternoon I went to the Island to test my run. I wanted a flat gentle surface, so Fiesta Island is the perfect location. The Island is roughly 4.2 miles. It is a location that I am very familiar with, as I ha ran and biked there many miles since 2001 when I started doing triathlon.
For the past 6 weeks or so my run coach has had me working on foot speed aka cadence. One of these days I am gonna graduate and lengthen my stride but who knows when. My goal was to run at a high cadence around the island and to beat the sunset. I parked my truck and changed into my running gear, and yes I wore my SLS3 compression socks, from there I did a warm up. The warm up went great, everything passed that part of the test. Getting into my run, everything still felt great I was pretty impressed. I kept the cadence going and everything held together very well.
Tuesday night is our spin/run workout and we do it at the place where I live. Tonight we used a spinervals intervals training video. I wiped our asses again. The video takes you through a series of high intensity workouts. We worked on cadence, climbing and zones. We did this workout over a month ago and I do not remember it kicking my ass that bad. After 60 minute of spin hell we slap on our tennies and do a quick run around the block, which always turns into a foot race.
Do you know why spinning on the trainer is so tough? Because you don’t get to stop at light, signs or backed up traffic. It forces you to keep going. But it’s good for you.
It was a good workout evening but I am glad tomorrow is Wednesday/hump day which means I get to take the training day off.
