F'n Oil in the Gulf of Mexico!

On April 20th a British Petroleum offshore oil rig blew up. It is now June 3, 2010 and the oil is still spewing into the Gulf of Mexico; over 200,000 gallons a day. Everyday I hear about this, it sends a spike into my heart and it pisses me off.

The reaction time seems to be of no concern to BP and our political officials. The Gulf of Mexico’s ecosystem is made up of a delicate balance of plants and animals. I remember seeing the pictures from the Exxon oil tanker spill in Alaska.

Pictures are showing up on the internet of the animals being affected by this oil spill. It disgusts me. The effect this has on the environment is going to take years to reverse.

Do we all realize how big of an impact this is going to have to our already financially strained economy? The small picture: The men and women who live off tourism and fishing dollars are going to be ruined. We all know that we, the taxpayers, are going to be funding the clean up of this disaster. The big picture ahead is not looking pretty. We are all going to be effected by this.

It totally stifles me how stupid and naive, we as a country have truly become. Politicians, big business and over paid individuals can get away with murder in this country.

I thought 9/11 would have opened our eyes as a nation; nope! Then there was hope that the Hurricane Katrina disaster would have opened our eyes; nope! Is this going to be the disaster that brings or unites the people of our country?

I am sick of watching this great nation crumble because of poor leadership and special interests groups. Remember it took more than one person to make the Boston Tea Party a success.

I could not imagine, not being able to enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Ocean. If La Jolla Cove, where I swim on a weekly basis, were to become polluted like this; I would be even more devastated. I am not a tree hugger, I am a concerned individual.

Together we have a voice but as individuals we will never be heard.
