After covering the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 (Congratulations Julie Dibens and Michael Realert on your WIN). I joined a group of friends who are doing IMAZ on Nov. 22, 2009 for a 50 mile bike ride along the California coast.. This is a group of first timers and they are talented.
The goal was to ride 50 miles easy. We met at a Starbucks in Del Mar, Ca. and rode to Camp Pendleton. Camp Pendleton is one of my favorite areas in Southern California to ride. It is usually pretty safe and clean. I say usably because most of the Marines respect the cyclist but there are those few who don’t.
Once we got into our ride I decided to go off the front and push it a bit. I wanted to see how my previously torn right hamstring would react. Plus truth is told I like speed on the bike. The leg felt great but I have not been riding regularly so I am not in the best cardiovascular shape. Most of my training has been to rehab the leg, so I have been in the gym and doing Tuesday night bike spin/run session with some training partners here at the house.

I also changed the height of my handlebars and brought them in closer to me. This was something that was pointed out to me by Scott Curry (Professional Triathlete and Chiropractor). This new positioning seems to take pressure of my lower back and the leg. I think my neck and shoulders need to get used to it, they were a little stiff.
I would label this ride a success and a step in the right direction. After my ride I headed home to do some recovery. Stretching, rolling with a foam roller and icing are usually my normal Saturday after ride routine. I have also extended my recovery by adding some E-Stim time.
DAMN! It is good to be back training again.
